i'm going green

grace number twenty four

today i am grateful for the plants in my bathroom.

actually, i am grateful for all of nature, but i guess specifically those plants. see, the thing is... i used to have a hard time keeping plants alive. i find this fact remarkably strange, because my mom is a super duper gardener, and i was a florist! doesn't that sound odd to you as well? if i sit there and try to analyze the problem, i think the issue is the fact that i am so busy and i have a hard time paying 100% attention to everything in my life. i think if things aren't in my "main view" then i tend to not notice them. because of this plants i'm trying to grow or maintain suffer.

maybe this is why i have always loved growing cacti or orchids. they don't need as much water!

anyway, in december my friend holl and i were looking through the dollar racks at target, and there were these "grow-a-plant" kits in lavender and strawberries, etc. so i got them. i thought it would be fun to watch them grow. my plan was to do them with my niece, but there was one night i was at home, feeling very sad and alone, cleaning my bathroom, and i kind of just started making the kits. and it was nice every day when i was getting ready for work to water the plants. and then one random day i saw a little green shoot coming through. WOWEE! that was so cool! seriously. they are still barely anything. mostly i just water dirt and just a little shoot peaking through the ground. but it is so nice. isn't it amazing that a little seed can become an actual plant?

i think so.
