grace number twenty six
today i am grateful for playing sports when i was a kid.
i mean, don't get me wrong. i'm so very far from miss sports usa. but when i grew up, i took ballet, jazz, tap dance and gymnastics classes. i also played basketball for a while in middle school. then in high school, i joined the swimming and diving team. my freshman year i did both swimming and diving, but the following years i stuck just to diving, because that is what i loved the most.
like i said, i am pretty far from earning any awards in sporting, but i think it is so important to involve your children in physical activities. maybe when i was a child it was more likely that my friends and me would be playing outside, but kids these days are just stuck to the tv or computer. thats so sad. i've actually seen kids whine because they were being "forced"to play outside.
damn, i WISH i were as active as i was when i was a kid. i spent the entirety of my day riding my bike, or rolling on my roller skates. building forts, running through the woods, playing wiffleball etc. i WISH i weren't so busy/lazy. i WISH i actually took advantage of the outdoors like i used to.
but regardless of what i do, or do not do now... i am glad i grew up as an active child. my (future)children will absolutely be active. i watch my niece as she starts her 2nd year on her TBall team, and in the winter she does her cheer leading. and she loves it!!! and she would much rather spend the day in the garden with my mom then in the house with the tv.
thats how things should be.
