gist #51
today i'm grateful for my friends (even though i am grateful for them everyday)
1. trish and amy for our monthly "wake up, wake up, wake up its the first of the month..."
2. elizabeth for our weekly telephone dates, even though we never ever call each other.
3. amy and sarah for tonight's upcoming movie date night. i'm going to put on a fashion show for them and try on all my clothes i bought for the cruise.
4. jill, technically she is a future family member, but i really love her and respect her as a mother and gf to my brother and i'm so glad she's in my life.
5. my blog friends. i honestly look forward to hearing from them and also look forward to hopefully meeting them someday. i have high hopes for meeting EP and tattooed dorothy one day in the next year or so. it seems plausible. y'all can come visit me any time you'd like. shoot, maybe i'll even head down to you're area soon ;)

2. the tv show house. i've only got two more episodes on season one before netflix can start sending me season two. yippee :)
3. that i have a job, even if i don't like it. i keep hearing about more and more people losing their jobs. i really would like a new one right about now, but i'm very grateful i have a regular paycheck. even if i don't feel fulfilled.
4. the possibility of a fun filled summer. i know its early to plan, but i'm working with cabin fever right now... i'm thinking a camping trip, a definite trip to baltimore to watch the red sox play (with a day trip to DC to see an old friend), a definite trip to VA for a wedding which happens to fall on my birthday weekend. and a possible girls trip to tennessee... any bloggers going to be in the VA, TN, MD, DC area this summer and want to meet up?
5. a half a day of work tomorrow and no class to attend! yahooo! that never happens. i'm going to enjoy every second of it!

i've always been interested in addiction. my life has been shaped by addiction in my family, as well as working with addicts, or people with co-occurring dilemmas.
because of this, i really enjoy reading memoirs about addiction (read caroline knapp's "drinking: a love story" its beautiful). i like to learn about treatments, watch documentaries, etc.
i have netflix (oh, how i love netflix), so i ordered the HBO Documentary: Addiction. it's a four disc series. The first disc was good. it is what originally aired on HBO. the next three discs are called " the supplemental series." lets just say i am not impressed with the latter three. i'm trying to stay interested, but its just not holding my interest at all. booooooo. :(

i'm watching "a mighty heart," the true story about daniel pearl, the american journalist who was kidnapped and murdered by a pakistani extremist group. i've always been really interested in daniel and mariane pearl's story. they were both excellent, honest journalists. the story is devastating. it is beautiful, but devastating nonetheless.
sometimes i wish i could change history. i usually only think this when i want to change sad stories. when i want to help people.
but so you know, this is a beautifully devastating movie. i recommend it.
