i've always been interested in addiction. my life has been shaped by addiction in my family, as well as working with addicts, or people with co-occurring dilemmas.
because of this, i really enjoy reading memoirs about addiction (read caroline knapp's "drinking: a love story" its beautiful). i like to learn about treatments, watch documentaries, etc.
i have netflix (oh, how i love netflix), so i ordered the HBO Documentary: Addiction. it's a four disc series. The first disc was good. it is what originally aired on HBO. the next three discs are called " the supplemental series." lets just say i am not impressed with the latter three. i'm trying to stay interested, but its just not holding my interest at all. booooooo. :(

Watching people battle their addictions and/or manage their mental health can be fascinating, depressing, and mind-blowing all at the same time. The people that work in those facilities are amazing people. Well, the ones I encountered. I've heard horror stories...
i did not like the HBO ADDICTION serie as a whole.
i work at a rehab. there are some pretty amazing people who aer employed there. at the same time, there are awful people who work there. this may be horrible to say, but i always think that if i were the client, i would have a hard time with recovery if i had a counselor like "that".
oh well, i guess it is like anything in life. an addict will encounter good people and bad people. its what they make of the experience that matters.
