grace number seventy two
today i am most grateful for vaginas.

ha. i bet you didn't expect that one. (well, i know i mentioned the vag. monologues yesterday, but i still bet you didn't expect me to say i was grateful for vaginas)

i don't think vaginas get as much credit as they deserve. for all who don't know, i acted in the vagina monologues in 2006. it was a wonderful experience, and i would do it again in a heartbeat! a lot of people thought i was crazy. i could even tell some of my friends and family were embarrassed. shoot, i remember warning my dad. "dad, you don't need to come to the show if you feel uncomfortable, but i just want to warn you, you are going to hear worlds like 'cunt' and 'pussy' quite a bit if you go."

he still went, but i'm sure he wasn't prepared to watch me do a monologue about going to a "vagina workshop" to learn how to masturbate. ha. i loved that monologue. i had to do it in a british accent, so it was rather hard to keep a straight face, speak in an accent and recite lines about "going down on myself." oh, vagina monologues. i loved every second of it. i'll see if i can find the video of my monologue. i don't know if i have it on my computer, but if i do- i'll post it. (don't expect an award winning performance). we did two nights of the show, and the first night was the show that was video taped. the second night i felt much more comfortable, and i took a lot more chances. at one point i got down on the mat i was using for a prop and had my legs all up in the air. too funny. i wish i had that show video taped. oh well.

anyway, i'm totally getting off point. vaginas are so important. i think the show the vagina monologues is so moving, because it hits the heart of so much we don't discuss in society. rape, abuse, orgasms- having them, and never being able to have them, sex, lesbianism, transsexualism, sex, sex, masturbation, domination, sex, how woman are judged by what they wear, how much society has changed regarding a woman's sexuality, and so much more.

some of the monologues are so sad. some are uplifting. all are empowering.

when we did our show, we donated all of the money to the local woman's center. we also gave a "vagina warrior" award to a woman who has been through immense hell and back. i will never forget her name, her face, her story and everything she does in the fight against domestic violence. her daughter was the one who presented her the award, and let me tell you i cried and cried and cried through her speech. it was beautiful.

anyway. yes, today i celebrate vaginas. i celebrate being a woman. i celebrate the possibility of one day being a mother. i celebrate how sexuality has changed through the years and because of that, i am able to openly write a blog about how grateful i am for vaginas.

y'all should rent the vagina monologues- men and women. its hilarious. all the guys who came to see my show laughed their ass off. its not just for women.
